Urbanism > Dún Laoghaire Harbour, Dún Laoghaire, Ireland

The Dún Laoghaire Harbour is a 200-year old heritage site twelve kilometres south of Dublin and a major port of entry for Ireland.

Metropolitan Workshop was invited by Dún Laoghaire Harbour Company in 2010 to prepare a masterplan which realises the potential of the harbour as a major marine, leisure and tourism destination.

The Harbour Company intends to promote investment in, and generate sufficient revenue from, commercial operations to ensure the long term sustainability of the harbour. The project presents many challenges including transport and tourism development, security logistics, heritage conservation, as well as the improvement of public amenities. Our masterplan will improve public access to the waterfront through a network of new public spaces.

Key aims are to create new cultural attractions, provide improved marine infrastructure and to establish the feasibility of providing new facilities for cruise liners to boost the regeneration of the town centre.
