Urbanism > Filipstad, Oslo, Norway

Metropolitan Workshop was selected by the city to participate in this competition and worked with Narud Stokke Wiig and Gross.Max.

Currently a container wharf, Filipstad is the place where Oslo meets the Fjord, with the same scale and mix of uses that characterises the successful parts of inner Oslo. Filipstad will contain residential areas and schools, offices and businesses, even a harbour, arranged around a 1km long park.

Filipstad has a unique location and will be the largest new residential area in central Oslo.

At the heart of the scheme is a large new park, unlike any other in Oslo, which will provide much needed green space to a dense part of the city.

The masterplan comprises 450,000-600,000m2 of mixed-use development.
