Cultural > Konserthus, Stavanger, Norway

Our proposal for this open international competition is for a concert venue surrounded by public spaces where non-ticketed events, exhibitions and attractions can be accommodated. Concert goers and general public would mingle in foyers to reduce a sense of exclusivity sometimes associated with orchestral music venues of this kind.

The concert hall should celebrate the achievements of Stavanger and its people. It not only needs to perform the function of event space, but must also tell a story. The building provides a narrative for Stavanger’s heritage, culture, music, engineering and pioneering spirit. It communicates and interprets the extraordinary maritime story of the city.
