Solheimsviken
Cultural > Solheimsviken, Bergen, Norway

Metropolitan Workshop and Og Arkitekter, Bergen, are designing a new 300 bed hotel, conference centre and exhibition hall in the old ship-building docks in Bergen, Norway.

The proposals are a central part of a major regeneration and development programme to revive the former industrial waterfront and improve connections and access to the water. These proposals will convert Solheimsviken  into a new city-wide destination.

The new hotel occupies a prime location along the waterfront and has a knot-like form to maximize the frontage and views of the surrounding fjord and mountain scenery.

The water has been channeled around the hotel detaching it from the mainland to create a building island while the hotel itself is clad in a fine brass sheet panel system that will shimmer like a ship’s bell on the Bergen waterfront.
