Des is the London Studio 1 lead and a senior associate with experience at all project stages, primarily in commercial and residential design. In recent years, he has focused on Building Information Management (BIM) and the challenges and opportunities inherent in its collaborative processes. He has completed the first two stages of the BRE’s BIM program – BIM Level 2 and BIM for Information Managers.
Since joining Metropolitan Workshop, Des has worked on a range of projects and stages: Stage 2 proposals for the Westbury Estate regeneration in Wandsworth for LB Lambeth; on Stage 4 design of Blackwall Reach Phase II (a BIM Level 2 project) for Swan Housing two apartment buildings within a phased redevelopment of Robin Hood Gardens for NuLiving; on Stage 4 design of Addiscombe Grove, Croydon, a 22-storey modular tower for Pocket Living; more recently on design to planning for a 192 dwelling mixed-tenure housing scheme for Hastings Council Stage 3 and early-stage design for a scheme of some 65 affordable homes in Lewisham.
Prior to joining Metropolitan Workshop, Des was project architect for DMOD Architects’ contribution to the Adamstown District Centre in Dublin, masterplanned and led by Metropolitan Workshop, and later for O’Mahony Pike’s component of a jointly-designed scheme in Canary Wharf, London. He also worked for Dublin-based practice RKD in Shanghai.
