Fresh Wharf

Barking, London

In 2015 Metropolitan Workshop was appointed by Countryside to review and redesign a scheme previously granted outline planning consent. Our revised scheme makes the proposals more efficient, viable and deliverable in the current market.

Our design amendments have reduced the height of the scheme to between 3 and 15 storeys. A taller building at the north of the site performs a landmark function. We have widened the riverside walk to make a less overshadowed area of public realm with stronger connections to the Central Park, giving a total of 16,575sqm of open space.

We have reconfigured and rationalised the buildings, so that more accommodation enjoys waterside views. The acoustic function of the western buildings is retained.

In 2017, we developed the design of phase 1 to deliver a Reserved Matters Application for the first 531 homes, over 200 of which were designated PRS for Folio (Notting Hill Housing). The application was approved in February 2018.
