Stillorgan
Stillorgan, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown, Ireland
We recently gained consent for 576 purpose built student housing bedspaces with 103 adjacent private for sale apartments with associated spaces and communal areas for Cairn homes at Stillorgan. The scheme consists of two buildings which repair the the fractured townscape between the N11 and the Hill. They enclose a new park space which creates a pedestrian new connection, via a south facing public plaza, between the Hill and the Lower Kilmacud Road. The student accommodation is organised in a cluster arrangement of between 4 to 8 bedrooms per shared living space. The scheme also contains a significant quantum of student studios and twodios offering variety to the market.
The falling topography allowed us to successfully promote additional height in excess of the LAP by using the level difference to effectively accommodate an additional floor while retaining a varied roof profile. Other site challenges included providing a high quality landscape which had to accommodate a significant flood plain, provide street frontage and active uses along a major road, provide communal and community uses at ground floor and successfully deal with the conflicting issues of public permeability and student security.
