Wichelstowe

Middle Wichel, Swindon

Metropolitan Workshop are working for the Wichelstowe Housing Company on this scheme for suburban housing on the outskirts of Swindon. Our proposal for parcels 2 and 3 of Middle Wichel responds to a brief that calls for high quality homes set within an uplifting, safe, walkable neighbourhood that enables the development of a unique, inclusive canalside community. Demographic analysis undertaken during masterplan development indicates that offering high quality homes that appeal to more affluent families working in Swindon will support the town’s continued socio-economic development.

As the first phase of Middle Wichel, the project is key to enhancing confidence in Wichelstowe Housing Company’s vision for Wichelstowe by delivering exemplary homes that realise the aspirational lifestyle envisaged for new settlement. The houses and apartments are all above the National Space Standard sizes and take inspiration from the distinctive Railway Village in the centre of Swindon.

The scheme received planning approval in 2017.

"Our aim will be to create a sense of place that is driven by the emerging community and that future residents are attracted by the scheme’s identity formed by its relationship with the land."
